Differences between Certified Teacher Tutors & Degreed Professional Tutors?

There are 2 levels of qualification for tutors in the Advancement Learning network:  Degreed Professional Tutor and Certified Teacher Tutor.
 
A Degreed Professional Tutor is a tutor who holds a bachelor's degree or higher in his or her subject area. These tutors are subject matter experts in their content area.
 
A Certified Teacher Tutor is a tutor who has met the level of qualification for a Degreed Professional Tutor and has additionally earned a state teaching certificate in his or her subject area. Certified Teacher Tutors are subject matter experts who are also trained in the methods of instruction and assessment. These tutors have prior classroom teaching experience and are thoroughly familiar with the state curriculum for their content area.
 
You may request the level of qualification that is sufficient to meet the specific needs of your child.

What Service Options Do You Offer?
 

Advancement Learning Offers 2 Service Options:

  • On-Demand Service
    • This service option offers you maximum flexibility.
    • You call for service as frequently or as infrequently as you like.
    • You purchase one session at a time lasting from 60 minutes up to 120 minutes.
    • You receive a service certificate (and a copy is sent to the tutor).
    • You then schedule that session with the tutor whenever you like.
    • You may cancel and reschedule without restriction.
    • Once the session is complete, you call back for more service when you're ready.
    • No commitment.
  • Weekly Service Plan
    • You receive a discounted hourly rate when you commit to at least 1-hour of tutoring service per week for a period of 4 weeks.
    • You specify the number of hours per week you desire for that 4-week period.
    • You prepay for that service to lock in your commitment.
    • You receive 4 service certificates for 4 sequential weeks.
    • You then schedule your sessions with the tutor on a week-by-week basis.
    • You have the flexibility to schedule those purchased hours anytime during the week you like.
    • You may cancel a session with a 24-hour notice and reschedule for another day later that same week.
    • At the end of the 4-week period, you have the option to start a new weekly service plan or switch to on-demand service.

If you have already purchased the weekly service plan and you desire additional hours of tutoring during any of those 4 weeks, you may purchase additional on-demand service at the same discounted hourly rate.

Where Are the Tutoring Sessions Held?

Advancement Learning tutors will travel to you, if you desire to receive tutoring services in the convenience of your own home. Optionally, you can choose to travel to the tutor's home and receive a discounted hourly rate.

When Can Sessions Be Scheduled?

Advancement Learning tutors are available to meet with students on weekday afternoons and evenings and all day on weekends. Once you receive your service certificate by mail, fax, or e-mail, the tutor will contact you to schedule the specific date and time that works best for you and your child.

Do You Offer Small Group Sessions?

Advancement Learning tutors can conduct small group sessions of 2 or 3 students if you have multiple children in need of tutoring or if you and a friend desire to have your children tutored at the same time. You receive a discounted hourly rate per student when your child attends a small group session.
 
Small group sessions of 2 or 3 students can be conducted even when the students attending are at different levels in a particular field of study. For example, a math tutor can conduct a small group session even if the students attending are in different math courses. Likewise, foreign language tutors and English tutors are qualified to tutor students at all levels in their field of study and can do so even in a small group session.

What Is the Cost for Your Service?

Please refer to the tables below to determine the applicable rate based on your specific needs and desires. (You may change your service options every time you purchase new service.) You can contact us by phone or e-mail if you have any questions regarding our rates.

Small Group Session Discounts: Add only $15 per hour for each additional student. Three student maximum per session.

What Are My Payment Options?

You Can Pay for Your Chosen Service Option Using Any of the Following Methods:

  • Mail:
    • Once you receive your invoice by mail, you can pay by check or return the invoice with your credit card information provided.
  • Fax:
    • Once you receive your invoice by fax or mail, you can fill in your credit card information and fax it back to us.
  • E-Mail Invoice:
    • You receive your invoice via an e-mail which includes a link to the PayPal™ website.
    • You then have the option of paying by credit card, bank draft, or with your PayPal account.

Important: Do Not Send Credit Card Information Directly by Replying to a E-Mail!
PayPal is a secure internet environment. E-mail is not.

  • Phone:
    • You can choose to provide your credit card information by phone at the time you call for service.

Once Advancement Learning receives your payment, you can choose to receive your service
certificate(s) either by mail, fax, or e-mail. A copy will be sent to the tutor who will then
contact you to schedule the dates and times for your service.

 

How Do I Get Started?

Contact us at any time by phone or e-mail to request your first hour free to evaluate our service. If we have a tutor in your area for your subject, we will send you a tutoring services retainer agreement. Once you sign and return this agreement to us by mail or fax, we will send you a service certificate for your first hour free. The tutor will then contact you by phone or e-mail to schedule the date and time for your first session.

First Hour Free!
The tutor will provide up to 30-minutes of consultation plus 30-minutes of tutoring in that first hour.  If you are pleased with the service that Advancement Learning provides, we invite you to contact us again for follow-on service as often as you like.
